Exam Strategy — Puzzle Solving Framework
- Read once, extract all constraints: Number the conditions as you read. Identify the most restrictive clue first (fixed positions, absolute constraints).
- Start with definite clues: Place people/items whose position is fully determined before tackling relational clues (adjacent, opposite, etc.).
- Use elimination: For circular puzzles, fix one person and arrange others relative to them. For floor puzzles, start from floors where the count constraint is given.
- Mark North/South facing carefully: In linear puzzles, "facing north" means the person looks upward on paper — left/right are reversed vs. the reader's perspective when facing south.
- Box & Day puzzles: Create a grid (entity vs. attribute). Fill definites first, then eliminate impossible combinations column by column.
- IBPS PO Mains: 4–5 questions per puzzle set. Attempt sets where ≥3 questions can be solved confidently. Skip if 0 clues lock immediately.
- Time cap: Spend ≤4 minutes per set in Prelims, ≤6 in Mains. If stuck after 3 minutes, mark and move on.
Puzzle Set 1 — Linear Arrangement (Q.1–5)
Set 1: Eight Bank Officers in a Row
Eight IBPS PO officers — Ankit, Bhavna, Chetan, Deepa, Esha, Farhan, Gita, and Hetal — are seated in a single row facing North. The following conditions apply:
(i) Bhavna sits at one of the extreme ends.
(ii) Farhan sits exactly in the middle (4th position from either end).
