Syllogism — IBPS Exam Strategy
- 4 statement types: All A are B (Universal +) · No A is B (Universal −) · Some A are B (Particular +) · Some A are not B (Particular −)
- Venn diagram rule: Draw the most restrictive valid diagram. If a conclusion holds in ALL valid diagrams → it follows. If it holds in SOME → check possibility.
- Key inferences: All A→B + All B→C = All A→C. All A→B + No B→C = No A→C. Some A→B + All B→C = Some A→C. Some A→B + No B→C = Some A are not C.
- Possibility clue: "Some A are B" is possible when the statements don't explicitly deny it. If All A are B is given, "Some A are B" is also TRUE (subset rule).
- Either-Or: If neither conclusion I nor II individually follows, but exactly one of them MUST be true (complementary pair of same subject/predicate), then "either I or II follows."
- IBPS PO Mains: Expect 4–5 statements with multiple conclusions. Use elimination: if a conclusion requires a chain not present in the statements, it fails.
- Time saver: For "All A are B, All B are C" type chains, just trace the chain mentally — don't redraw for every question.

Coding-Decoding — IBPS Exam Strategy
- Step 1 — Identify the coding rule: Compare word ↔ code. Check letter shift (A→D = +3), reversal, positional coding, symbol mapping.
- Shift coding: Each letter moves +n or −n positions in the alphabet. A=1, B=2 ... Z=26. Wrap: Z+1=A.
- Number coding: A=1, B=2 ... Z=26 OR A=26, B=25 ... Z=1 (reverse). Check which fits the given examples.
- Mixed coding: Each word in a sentence gets a unique code symbol/number. Use 2 sentences sharing a word to isolate codes.
- Pattern coding: First letter of each word, or nth letter, or alternating letters. Look for the simplest pattern that works.
- IBPS PO Mains: Expect multi-layered codes — e.g., letter shift + reversal + vowel replacement. Apply transformations in order.
- Quick check: Always verify your rule against ALL given examples before applying to the unknown.
